18th Foot The Royal Irish Regiment of Foot Georgian Officers Shoulder Belt Plate
They don't come much scarcer than this! Described in Parkyn but not illustrated. Worn circa 1830-1840 It has a Burnished Gilt backplate (Gilt worn) Now polished bright on this a 8 pointed silver multipoint star. on this the Georgian Crown in gilt. A centre strap with the regimental moto Virtutis Namurencis Praemium in fretted gilt over a blue enamel backing. To the centre the harp with the Maid of Erin on th bottom ray of the star a gilt scroll with the Roman Numerals LXVIII to the bottom of the plate a spray of silver thistles with the sphinx in the centre over a tablet Egypt.
