They were designated in March 1814 This plate was worn on the Heavy Albert Pattern Helmet from 1854. It is similar in shape and size to the Heavy Dragoon Officers Helmet and is one of the biggest badges recorded, being 6 inches wide and 5.5inches tall. It is in three sections. The backing plate is bright gilt and on the shield is a silver hobnailed star. On this a gilt oval strap with "The North Somerset" in the centre Queen Victoria's Monogram. The orb at the top of the crown is missing but could be replaced. A Superb item
