27th Enniskilling Regiment Georgian Officers Shoulder Belt Plate
The 27th Enniskilling Regiment of Foot were founded in 1751 and it was in 1840 that they changed the E to I and became the Inniskilling Regiment of Foot so the plate certainly pre dates 1840 It is Parkyn 237. Matte gilt backplate On this a Silver Hobnailed star to the top a Crown in Gilt then there are 10 gilded rays with the battle honours Maida Salamanca-Badajoz- Vittoria- Nivelle-Pyrenees-Orthes- Toulouse-Peninsula-Waterloo. To the centre in bright gilt the Castle of Enniskilling with flag flying above a scroll Enniskillen Under this the numerals 27 and below this the sphinx in gilt. They became the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1881 when it merged with the 108th Madras Infantry, It is in lovely condition and as ever my photography does it no justice
