A Truly Superb SBP dating c 1840-50 to one of the oldest regiments in the British Army. Formed originally by the East India Company fought against Tippoo Sultan in 1790-91storming and capturing Bangalore and fighting at Saringapatam. Later they fought in the Peninsula then Canada.West Indies,India na Burmah they became the 2nd Battn Duke of Wellingtons in 1881. The plate is described by Parkyn but not displayed. It has a matt gilt back plate with burnished edge. On this a silver hobnailed star on this a wreath of Laurels and Palm leaves in gilt topped by a crown under this the battle honours Hindoostan and Nive to the bottom also in gilt a scroll Peninsula. To the centre a silver elephant over the roman numerals LXXV1. Superb
