Victorian 4th Kings Own Royal (Lancaster) Regiment Officers Shoulder Belt Plate
This is written up in Parkyn but not illustrated. The pattern was worn from 1833 through to the Crimean War. It was the property of Lt Theobald Pepper-Roberts who was commissioned as an ensign in 1840 and was the regiments senior subaltern in the Crimean War. He left the regiment in 1854 after 14 years service. It is a large plate with gilded backplate (a little gilt loss) a gilt crown and strap, lion and numerals with a silver laurel wreath to the bottom Battle Honours, Corrunna St Sebastian, Badajoz, Nive (Nivelle) Salamanca,Vittoria,Peninsula, Waterloo and the scarce Bladensburg Honour from the War of 1812 where they went on to sack Washington and burned the Capitol and the White House.In 1831-7 they were in New South Wales, India 1837-44,Crimea Alma-Inkerman-Sevastopol
