Georgian 57th West Middlesex Regiment Officers Shoulder Belt Plate
A stunning and extremely scarce SBP. It is referred to in Parkyn (page 256)but not displayed. I believe this was worn c 1770-1788. It is Oval with a raised edging. Georgian Crown surmounts a strap with West Middlesex Regiment inside this a shield with 3 scimitars surmounting the number 57. During the time of the SBP the regiment served in America under Cornwallis in Carolina and Virginia through to the surrender at York Town. From 1783 to 1790 the regiment was stationed in Nova Scotia, It returned to Britain and served at the siege of Dunkirk and went to the West Indies in 1795. In immaculate condition.
