Georgian 79th Regiment of Foot The Royal Liverpool Regiment of Volunteers Officers Shoulder Belt Plate
The regiment was formed specifically for the American War of Independence in 1778. Major Pole commanding. The regiment arrived in Jamaica in March 1779 and took part in the expedition to Nicaragua under the command of the young Captain Horatio Nelson. In 1781 the famous Banastre Tarleton became the C/O. The Tarleton Helmet was named after him and he was a renowned figure in the War of Independence. Much feared and hated by the Americans. The regiment returned to Liverpool in 1784 and was disbanded. As rare a piece of British Militaria as you will find.
