Worn only between 1880-1887 this is a fine silvered helmet plate. The Fifeshire Rifle Volunteers were formed in 1860. In 1880 the HQ was at St Andrews with 12 companies A/B at Dunfermline, C/D at Couper, E at Anstruther F at Colinsburgh, GG at St Andrews, H at Leslie I at Falkland K at Kirkcaldy, L at Lochgelly an M at Newburgh in 1887 they became the 6th (Fifeshire) Volunteer Battn The Black Watch
