Royal Scots 5th Volunteer Battalion Victorian Officers Blue Cloth Helmet Plate

Leave the best til last they say. This superb item is in silver or silver plate with a gilt centre overlay over a green enamel centre. Unusually there is no damage to the enamel. The 5th came out of the Midlothian Rifle Volunteers (Leith & Corstophine) and was formed as the 5th Battalion in April 1888 The blue helmet was only worn between 1888 and 1905 when the battalion adopted the Kilmarnock Bonnet. The Battalions HQ was at Steads Place Leith and latterly Dalmeny Street Leith Walk
