Victorian 1st City of London Engineers Officers Waist Belt Plate

Very scarce item. A gilt City of London Badge "Domine Dirige Nos" with to the centre a garter with 1st City of London Engineers and to the centre of this the arms of the City. All on a silvered backing plate. This unit was formed in 1862 and were nicknamed "Old Jewry" reflecting the area of London where they were formed. They moved to the Barbican in 1868 and then on to Islington. They sent two detachments to the Boer War. Lovely item.
