Victorian 1st Argyll and Bute Artillery Volunteers Helmet Plate

Formed at Oban Oct 10th 1861 There were subsequently 12 batteries. They were consolidated again as the 1st in May 1880. 211 men of the 1st A&B Artillery volunteered for service in the Boer War, but only 8 were selected for service. The pipe band had over 30 pipers and 3/4th of the men were Gaelic speakers.
