9th (Highlanders) Battalion The Royal Scots Officers Shoulder Belt Plate

A very nice quality scarce piece to the "Dandy 9th". The only kilted battalion of the Royal Scots. It was formed in 1900 from highlanders in the city of Edinburgh. It served in the Boer war and in WW1 saw a great deal of action and fought on the Somme at Beaumont Hamel and High Wood, and at the Battle of Arras and was in action around Ypres,at Pilckem and the Menin Road Bridges. It was amalgamated with the 7th Battalion in 1920 as the 7th/9th Royal Scots.
A Lovely plate with a "hobnail" silver star Maker marked to J Stewart & Son 88 George Street Edinburgh.
