Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders 1st Renfrewshire VB Plaid Brooch

This is a very scarce Victorian Plaid brooch in heavy nickel silver.This unit was raised from the Renfrewshire Rifle Volunteers who were formed in 1860 in Greenock.The 1st were consolidated as the 1st (Renfrewshire) Volunteer Battn A&SH in 1887 with HQ at 37 Newton Street, Greenock.The Highland companies continued to wear highland dress until 1899.Around 70 men from this battalion served with the regulars in the Boer War. In very good condition.
